Joe Riggs VS. Cory Devela
February 23rd, 2008Cory earlier stated that he was insulted that Riggs had openly stated that he was “looking beyond” Devela. Hopefully, that animosity will spill into the cage.
After a lengthy feeling-out period, Cory pressed Riggs up against the cage, turned him around, slipped a leg under both of Rigg’s knees, and threw him ass-over-tea-kettle to the ground where Riggs grimaced and tapped-out. The audience erupted to their feet.
As Cory jumped around the ring, grinning, Riggs tried to get up numerous times, but failed due to visible pain. In the reruns, Riggs went to touch his hip after hitting the ground. Either way, Riggs was carried out on a stretcher and Devela won the arm-raise by “body slam submission” at 1:22 in the first round.

I really wanted to see these guys bang, but Devela ended it too quickly. Riggs didn’t look 100%, but Devela certainly did. I don’t fault him for jumping around afterward cus that was a big fight for him. Hell, I’d be doing the same thing if I thought I was going to go through a tough battle and ended up winning by a perfect throw. I have to credit Devela for his execution. What’s with Cowboy karate though. I’ll be watching Devela in the future.

Yeah, I’ll be watching Devela too - waiting eagerly to see him get the living daylights pounded out of him. Such disrespect he showed Riggs is not good for the sport and showed his character to be what it is, that of a low brow idiot. It was obvious Joe was in pain, there was no need to go leaping around for 15 minutes like he’d just KO’d Fedor. What an idiot. I’lll be looking forward to seeing that smug grin wiped off his face A.S.A.P.
